Kids activities in the French Alps

Families with children will discover an abundance of fun-filled adventures awaiting them in the Alps.

While mountain biking, water sports, walking, and hiking are all family-friendly options, we've curated a selection of unique activities below that are sure to be lots of fun.

Adventure parks/accrobranches in the French Alps

Acrobatic forest itineraries take place in the tree canopy and can be enjoyed by all. Strapped into your safety harness and suspended 15 metres above the ground you move between trees hurtling along the 1/2 inch steel cable or simply balancing over wooden trunks, you'll love every minute. No fitness/tree climbing required. Try in Samoëns, Les Houches, Les 2 AlpesLes Gets, Grand Bornand and Morzine.

Mountain coasters in the French Alps

This form of bobsleigh is hugely popular with children. Up the chair lifts and then down the summer toboggan. It's that easy! Try Chamonix, Les 2 AlpesMorzine or the mountain coasters in the likes of Les Carroz d'Araches near Samoëns.

Via Ferrata in the French Alps

A challenging and demanding combination of scrambling and climbing rockfaces with man-made courses of pegs and cables, fixed ropes, ladders and hand rails. They vary in length and difficulty to suit most people’s appetites for adventure, and some sites have special courses for children. Helmets and harnesses are provided for safety.

Friendly animals in the French Alps

From pony walks and donkey rides to wild marmotte or wild goat spotting, there are many ways for children to enjoy contact with nature.  The Merlet Animal Park in Les Houches is a magnificent 50 hectares park where mountain ibex, chamois, marmottes and deer roam in freedom.

Bowling or indoor ice rinks in the French Alps

Many resorts offer indoor activities like bowling or ice skating when the weather perhaps isn't so great. There is an indoor ice rink in Morzine and bowling alleys in La Rosière and Les 2 Alpes.

Mountain biking in the French Alps

Not just for adults, there are plenty of kid-friendly mountain biking trails to be discovered.

Bike Park Les Gets has trails dedicated to beginners and plenty for the more experienced rider to have a go at. There’s a mini jump park for little legs, 2 pump tracks and a dedicated kid’s zone.

For those children who are more experienced in biking, Les 2 Alpes offer the Mountain of Hell event for kids over 9 years old also - definitely not for the faint-hearted!
