What is ABTA?

ABTA was set up to raise the travel industry standards, making it easy to find travel companies who are reputable, professional and trustworthy. ABTA members safeguard holidaymakers who book with them. The organisation also does extensive work behind the scenes on health and safety and sustainability.

ABTA members follow a Code of Conduct, which helps them provide you with high quality, reliable travel experiences and advice. This guarantees the highest standards of customer service, allowing you to travel with confidence.

Why buy a package through an ABTA member?

Booking a package is an excellent way to take the stress out of holiday planning. When you book with an ABTA member, they’ll do the legwork for you, saving you time. You’ll benefit from their in-depth knowledge and guidance. Plus, you’ll have one point of contact for support if things don’t quite go to plan. A package provides the best form of protection for your travel plans, as your holiday will be protected under the Package Travel Regulations.

We know that everyone’s holiday is personal to them, so you won’t be buying an off-the-shelf package; we’ll tailor-make a holiday package that is perfect for you.

A Package doesn’t have to involve a flight. Booking other forms of transport (such as Eurotunnel, ferries or trains) alongside your accommodation also forms a package.

How does ABTA protect my money?

Peak Retreats provides total financial protection for clients booking holiday packages with us. This is provided by way of a bond held by ABTA for the holiday packages we sell. This protects you in the unlikely event of our failure. ABTA checks its members’ finances regularly, reducing the risk of anything going wrong.

You may have also heard of an ATOL licence. ATOL stands for Air Tour Organiser’s Licence. These are issued by the Civil Aviation Authority. The need for this licence only applies when tour operators are offering flight inclusive packages. As we don’t do this, then we aren’t required to hold an ATOL licence.

How does ABTA help if there is a problem?

ABTA's Code ensures that ABTA Members respond to any complaint within strict time limits. If you can’t resolve a dispute, ABTA offers a low-cost independent arbitration service.
