1. La Rosière

Christmas in La Rosière sees the transformation of The Forest Trail into a magical forest with illuminations (the forest is part of the resort and is a short yet enchanting walk that separates the two villages - La Rosière Centre and La Rosière Les Eucherts).

There are plenty of festive-themed, family-friendly activities to enjoy. Travelling with children? Don't miss the Grand Children's Ball, a dedicated festive event tailored to younger visitors (usually on Wednesday after the ski slopes have shut).

Soak up the welcoming atmosphere of the Christmas market with Christmas chalets along the pedestrian path, featuring local producers and craftspeople, Savoyard and Italian specialities. Enjoy live concerts, ice skating shows and ice hockey matches at the resort's easy-to-access indoor ice rink.

Watch ESF ski instructors conduct the torchlight descent before enjoying a free hot chocolate. Try to spot Santa wandering the resort.

Recommend stay: Les Balcons de la Rosière. It's close to all the main amenities, including ski school, ski lifts, shops, and much more. The apartments are in the traditional Savoyard style so are perfect for a cosy Christmas vibe. The largest apartment features a private sauna.

2. Valmorel

Christmas in Valmorel often sees a Christmas parade! There's a huge circus-themed show complete with acrobatic elves who shower traditional sweets (papillotes) over the crowds.

The aerial Santa arrival is an unmissable event with fireworks on Christmas Eve. This professional paragliding or circus stunt demonstration culminates in a guard of honour escorting Santa through the bustling Rue du Bourg.

The resort is also known to host a yule log tasting event on the evening of Christmas Day, with a huge traditional yule log (bûche géante de Noël), home-baked by the local artisan of Valmorel village (which raises money for a local charity).

The main squares are transformed into a Christmas village with storytelling, photo sessions with Santa, and gingerbread workshops.

Recommend stay: La Grange aux Fees. It's ideally located in a quiet, elevated, and sunny position in the Hameau des Lanchettes; this splendid residence offers ski-in/ski-out and all the conveniences a mere five minutes’ walk away.

3. Les Saisies

Les Saisies typically hosts its Winter Fairy festive programme across the resort each year. The programme includes lively musical walks, street performances and grand firework displays. It even allows you to take part in the holiday torchlight ski descents!

The Christmas Village includes a market where you can taste traditional meals like raclette. Shop for local products, enjoy refreshments and pop into Santa's Village to get photos and deliver a wishlist letter.

For something different, visit the Erwin Eckl space to watch impressive animated light and sound shows played out on giant LED screens.

4. Megève

You can visit the Elf Village, where elves host interactive winter storytelling, face painting, and greeting-card or snowman-making workshops.

A major holiday highlight involves Santa and his elves parading through the village square in a beautifully lit, festive sleigh.

There's also a festive culinary event, or if you're in the mood for a Christmas film, head to a screening at Le Palais sports complex. Here, you'll also find a themed obstacle course!

Recommended stay: l'Éclat des Vériaz. These high-quality apartments are situated in a quiet location with stunning panoramic views. Swimming in the heated outdoor pool on Christmas day will be something to remember and the stunning wellness area is a great way to unwind.

5. Tignes

Children can meet Père Noël (Father Christmas), take photos and hand him their wish letters.

9. Châtel
