In nearby Avoriaz, Aquariaz is a brand new indoor/outdoor waterpark/swimming pool (30 mins drive)

142 Routes des Rennes
74110 Avoriaz

Phone: +33(0)4 50 74 24 42

Aquariaz has been designed as an aquatic paradise in the mountains featuring lush vegetation and rocks: a river with variable gentle current, a slidewinder (aquatic halfpipe), a water playhouse, a paddling pool, a large pool with climbing walls, massage benches and the must: an open-air spa heated to 34°C! This type of water park is found nowhere else in the mountains and features a 'hybrid' concept with natural tropical vegetation in mountain surroundings.

It is made up of three different worlds:

•    The first world, Water Playhouse, is for younger children and features geysers and pouring-water play equipment including water slides, water guns and a tipping bucket that pours out tens of litres of water at a time. This extends into a large paddling pool.

•    The second world, the Slidewinder, is for the most adventurous bathers who are looking for big thrills and an adrenaline buzz. More than 10 metres up, you sit in a rubber tube and slide down a halfpipe

•    The third world, in the central pool for bathers of all ages, is made up of three sections:
- A gently flowing river with water games (bubbles, jets and faster and slower sections) with two areas of bubble-massage seats along the way.
- A swimming pool, 1.5 metres (5 feet) deep.
- A 1.5m (5ft) deep pool below a climbing wall that extends for its entire length.

And not forgetting the outdoor Jacuzzi® with its uninterrupted view of the valley.

Events in Les Gets

A talkative elf has started a rumour that Father Christmas lives in Les Gets – but shhhhhh - don’t tell anyone! At the end of every year, the village bubbles with excitement thanks to Father Christmas and this
special magic-filled Christmas event. On the programme for these 15 exciting days are visits to the enchanted forest where he lives with
his loyal elves and where you can enjoy story-telling. Other family surprises include street theatre, elf workshops, shows, local parties …… and other unmissable Christmas events.

21st December - 3rd January 2014

This exciting winter event, bringing together the best mushers in the world, returns to Les Gets for a stage this year. It is a long-distance race inspired by the legendary Yukon Quest and Iditarod mushers and is a great opportunity for lovers of the Big North to indulge in their passion. Competitors depart from the village centre and follow a two hour circuit over the Mont Chéry slopes to Mont Caly, before returning to the village for veterinary checks. The race will then continue towards Les Chavannes via a spectacular section under the Maison des Gets. Various themed shows and events are planned throughout the week.

15th January 2014

This exciting, unique event is a kind of orientation race over the Les Gets ski area in which any experienced skier or snow boarder can participate. The objective of this multi-discipline event is to pass through a series of marked checkpoints as quickly as possible (in under 3 hours). Teams of 2 racers will each be given a route map while organisers follow their progress in real time, via GPS, to ensure all checkpoints have been crossed. After the Le Mans-style start, each team races to find the various compulsory routes and complete them
in the fastest time possible. To win requires strategic, methodical and tactical planning, and a good sense of direction, as each team can choose its own route over the area to cut precious seconds from their overall time, (checkpoints can be crossed in any order the participants choose). To maximise participation in the race and include skiers of all levels, there are 3 categories: Snowboard Competition, Ski Competition and Ski Discovery (for families). In this way both experienced and less experienced skiers can explore the ski area in a fun and exciting way.

8th, 22nd, 29th January 2014

Champagne and hors d’oeuvres will be served and a magnificent firework display will bring the evening to close - leaving
everyone with stars in their eyes! Further information, price and registration:

ski info

Les Gets and its larger neighbour Morzine share one of the best ski areas in the Portes du Soleil. Together with other popular resorts such as Avoriaz or Chatel, it shares a massive 650km of pistes. The terrain is suited to beginners right through to experts. The scenery from Mont Chery in particular is stunning with a great panorama of the village/slopes with Mont Blanc in the distance.

Additional ski fact info, main ski area listed above

Les Gets/Morzine

385 snow cannons in Les Gets/Morzine covering 20 hec and 35% of the area.

From Les Gets village centre, you can ski Les Gets from a choice of two ski areas. On one side there’s Mont Chery (some of the most challenging slopes and usually quiet) with its sumptuous views of Mont Blanc, and on the other is Chavannes, with access to 650 km of ski-runs and the other resorts in the Portes du Soleil. In order that skiers can cross the village on skis, a white way is built every winter for skiers. It’s actually a snow-covered strip of road that serpents between chalets, letting people cross easily from one side of the mountain to the other, without taking their skis off.

Les Gets is well situated for beginners with good nursery slopes in the village as well as more snowsure ones up at La Chavannes. There is a special area
including play facilities, reserved for beginners and children.

The “Espace des Mappys” beginners’ ski area, is a fantastic innovation in Les Gets. It is free of charge and provides the perfect environment to learn to ski safely, protected from faster more confident skiers. Easily accessible from the top of the Chavannes bubble lift, this beginners’ zone is in a calm, safe area just beside the main ski slopes. It has 2 moving carpets and 2 towropes on a gentle beginners’ slope.

Intermediates have wide cruising runs from La Ranfolly and from the top of Le Pleney down to Morzine. There are some excellent reds on Mont Chery. Portes du Soleil has extensive intermediate slopes with big lift networks.

For the more advanced there are also good slopes on Mont Chery, on the other side of the resort. Experts will find good steep runs over the back of Mont Chery. More intimate, it is ideal for the more reflective skier and the perfect environment for powder skiing. The runs are mainly red and black and there are also two slalom
runs and a snowpark with an airbag.
You can find off-piste opportunities on Chamossière.

Snowboarding in Les Gets is fun with access to a snowpark on the upper slopes of Mont Chery with airbag, hips, handrails, tables and a wall; plus a Jib park with a table and handrail. There’s a boardercross near the top of Chavannes.

In good snow there is plenty to do off-piste, including some excellent wooded areas.

Bottom Slopes shows the average snow cover in cm at the bottom of the ski area (this is generally where the nursery pistes are located). About 10 cm is generally enough to ski but it very much depends on what’s below ie. grass or more rocky surface.
