Mont-Blanc (Aravis) - Le Grand Bornand

Le Grand Bornand, Aravis

The resort

In the heart of the Aravis Mountain range in the Haute Savoie, perfectly located between Mont Blanc, Lake Annecy and Switzerland, Le Grand-Bornand offers the best of the Alps! Le Grand Bornand is considered to be the best preserved and most beautiful (of all the) Savoyard villages. The local community has managed to perfectly combine the demand/meet the needs for visitors seeking the excellent skiing area whilst maintaining all of its traditional charm and alpine heritage. ...more

To help preserve the authenticity of the village, the skiing activities are centred slightly further up the mountain in Le Chinaillon. From here, you have easy access to all of the slopes and some of the best views in the Alps. If you ever did want to venture out to the surrounding areas, Annecy with its magnificent lake is only 40 minutes away and the neighbouring ski resort of La Clusaz is just around the corner.

The Aravis Mountains, with their summit at 2750m, form the main backdrop to the village. The range is capped by the distinctive Pointe Percée from where green, forested mountain slopes, open to all, curve down towards the village.

The resort is divided in to two parts: Le Grand-Bornand Village is, at 1000 metres,a typical Savoyard village with a market square and “grenette”, a traditionally roofed  market  hall, its church and shops. The splendid Bouchet valley stretches away behind… a favourite cross country ski area.
Six kilometres further up, at 1300 metres and on the road to Col de la Colombiere, Le Grand-Bornand – Chinaillon is the other part of the resort, where most of the ski runs begin. The old part of Chinaillon, very well preserved, dates back to 17th century. This is where our featured accommodation, Le Village de Lessy, is situated.

Le Grand-Bornand has more cows than inhabitants, of which it is proud, and is the birthplace of the famousReblochon, an AOC cheese (appellation d'origine contrôlée) is made twice a day in the farms of the village during winter time and in pastures during summer time. The first Reblochon's market was created in 1795 in Le Grand-Bornand, and remains the most important in the whole valley. The traditional Reblochon market is held on Wednesday mornings.

Why Le Grand Bornand?

·          Less than an hour from Geneva

·          Traditional villages with an authentic atmosphere

·          40 mins from Annecy & the ski resort of La Clusaz is just down the road
