resort info

The old stone farming village of Saint-Martin de Belleville is full of character, in complete contrast with neighbouring Les Menuires, a purpose-built resort with a somewhat controversial architecture, and the above-perched snow-sure resort of Val Thorens.

Saint-Martin de Belleville is a lived in, unspoiled charming village with an old church (floodlit at night), small square and buildings of wood and stone.

Saint Martin de Belleville has a quiet location, a chic atmosphere and a good variety of bars and restaurants away from the maddening crowds.

Saint Martin de Belleville new 8-person gondola whisks you to the ridge overlooking the valley of Meribel.

Why St Martin de Belleville?

·          Real village life in a chocolate box village

·          Quick access to massive 3 Vallees area

·          A peaceful base

ski info

Part of the 3 Vallees ski area, Saint-Martin de Belleville is an ideal base for quick access to the largest ski area in the world and its 600km of runs.Taking the high-speed 8-person gondola from the centre of the village and just one fast quad modern chair lift you can be at the top of the 'Tougnete' ridge less than ¼ of an hour. From there enjoy the amazing panoramic views and decide whether to ski down to Meribel, Mottaret , Les Menuires or Saint-Martin taking the choice of runs best suited to your level. You can then carry on easily towards Val Thorens or Courchevel.

3 Valleys benefits from excellent snow coverage - the minimum altitude level for skiing is 1300m and the max is 3230m. This means that a huge 85% of the ski area is located above 1800m. 2000 snow making machines cover 1/3 of the ski area as well. The 3 Valleys offers wide ski runs that are maintained nightly by 80 piste grooming machines.

The 3 Valleys Goggles by Scott, fitted with the RECON system, enable riders to read information on the screen of their goggles via Bluetooth and their Smartphone. Thanks to this brand new technology developed by LUMIPLAN, riders can access real time information about the resort: weather forecast, slope openings and so on. This is the first pair of goggles of this type and they can be tested this winter in the 3 Valleys. They will be on sale in sport shops.

News 14/15:

This year the legendary point of la Masse becomes more accessible! At the top, at an altitude of 2804 m, take the time to admire the breath-taking panorama: a 360° view of the Tarentaise, Maurienne, Vanoise and Mont-Blanc. Then ski down the 1000 metres to the bottom of the piste at your own pace.

St Martin is a little alpine village which is linked to the large 3 Valleys ski area so you get the best of both worlds. Saint Martin de Belleville is blessed with lightly wooded slopes unlike its neighbour ski resort Val Thorens. There are fast lifts that get you to the slopes of Les Menuires and Meribel.

Beginners can start on the nursery slope from the centre of St Martin de Belleville village (running alongside our featured residence – Les Chalets du Gypse) and then progress on to easy blue runs from the top of ‘Tougnete’ and explore the rest of the Three Valleys. There are 5 free beginners’ lifts in the valley.

Intermediates will find endless opportunities to explore the whole Three Valleys and St Martin de Belleville. 3 Valleys has extensive intermediate slopes with big lift networks. Locally, at Les Menuires the slopes above the village on the west-facing side have lots to offer and are all pretty much blues and reds.

Advanced skiers and boarders won’t feel left out with a choice of moguls, steep runs or off-piste in just about every corner of the ski area. The Orelle area above Val Thorens is particularly worth a try. Head to the upper slopes of La Masse for steeper slopes. It also has some of the best snow in the 3 Valleys at La Masse. There is also a huge amount of off piste runs within the 3 Valleys.

Enjoy a non-groomed area! It’s now possible to enjoy safe powder skiing on nongroomed pistes in Les Menuires. Thanks to the various « Nature Zones » created on the ski area, families, friends, expert or learner riders can enjoy skiing in an area reserved for great sensations! New in Les Menuires for 13/14, 100% natural, 100% pleasure!

100% natural, 100% pleasure! It’s now possible to enjoy safe powder skiing on non-groomed pistes in Les Menuires. Thanks to the various « Liberty Rides » created on the ski area, families, friends, expert or learner riders can enjoy skiing in an area reserved for great excitement!

Liberty ride on la Masse: access via la Masse 2 gondola, Liberty ride ON Ariondaz near Saint Martin: access via the Saint Martin 2 chairlift, Liberty ride of pylônes: access via the Sunny Express chairlift.

Les Menuires and Saint Martin de Belleville (highest altitude 2850m) benefit from an exceptional natural snow cover. This is reinforced by more than 410 snow cannons covering 50% of the pistes. Two summits (at 2700 m and 2850 m) benefit from artificial snow, from the top of the pistes right down into the centre of the resort. The production of artificial snow starts in November and continues throughout the winter.

Saint Martin de Belleville Snow Report – 2004-2014 (10 season average)

Here is the snow record data for St Martin. The first row shows the week for which the measurement applies eg. February 3 is the 3rd week in February. Top slopes shows the average snow cover in cm at the top of the ski area. Bottom Slopes shows the average snow cover in cm at the bottom of the ski area (this is generally where the nursery pistes are located). About 10 cm is generally enough to ski but it very much depends on what’s below ie. grass or more rocky surface.
