Adventures for all the family
If you're holidaying as a couple or a family, or with multiple generations, then finding activities you can all enjoy and experience together will bring you all closer. The French Alps has so much to offer making them an ideal destination. Plus, the climate is perfect for little ones, the mountain air invigorates, the sunshine restores and these activities will make your summer even more fun.
Walking
It's the most obvious thing to do in the mountains, get outside and go for a walk, you'll discover stunning landscapes, mini-beasts, beautiful wildflowers, mountains pastures, shepherds' huts, remote chapels and more. With marked walking trails across all our resorts, there is so much choice but everywhere will always local routes so you can tailor your walk to your party. Explore more.
Swimming spots
There's nothing like plunging into a cool pool on a hot day. The resorts of Le Grand Bornand and Samoëns both have brilliant outdoor swimming pools with slides and fun features for little ones. Morzine's Aquatic Centre has an Olympic-size outdoor pool, giant slide, beach volleyball court and grassy lawns. Annecy has its lake, which is fun to paddle in (or explore on a pedalo). Paddleboarding
Stand-up paddleboarding is a great way to experience the beautiful lakes the mountains have to offer. It's easy to pick up (you just need a little balance (but you can always kneel). Gliding peacefully across the water can be a full body work out and is great for your core, plus it's fun! For enviable insta-worthy backdrops to your photos, try it on Lake Annecy or give it a go at altitude on the mountain lake in Tignes le Lac. Here you'll need a wetsuit, which you rent along with your board.
Mountain coasters
A summer luge is a rollercoaster that you are in charge of. There are banked turns and steeper sections along a track that usually runs through beautiful forest. They are great for some gentle fun but that does depend on how you use the brakes! Lots of resorts have invested in these over recent seasons and they are a great activity for all the family. We've rounded up our favourites of these mountain coasters, and if you are heading to the Alps in winter then don't miss the chance to try these in the snow too! Read our guide to mountain coasters.
Treetop adventures - Accrobranche
Accrobranche is the French word for the treetop high-rope courses like those we have in the UK. With so many beautiful forests, getting up in the trees while in the mountains is a great way to experience the landscape differently. There are treetop adventures to be had a short drive from Samoëns, Les Houches and Chamonix, Les 2 Alpes and in Le Grand Bornand. Whilst above the treeline, Tignes has overcome that issue by building its own impressive structure with nets, rope bridges and zipwires.
For family holiday inspiration read about our colleague Georgie's trip to Tignes with her family, or Jess's family trip to Chamonix.
