St Jean Resort Information
The resort of St-Jean d’Arves (which is one of 28 hamlets) has wide panoramic views of the three Aiguilles d'Arves peaks culminating at 3514 m, and described as "the most beautiful Alpine Trilogy" by the father-and-son team Almer and William Coolidge who officially made the first ascent). Peak Retreats features accommodation, the Chalet des Marmottes, which is in the village of La Chal. The Arvan river crosses the village and flows into the Arc river in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne. This provides a wonderful setting and base for a Saint Jean ski holiday.
The charming rural village, which takes its name from the local dialect word 'Arva' (running water), is still imbued with local traditions. The tourist office invites you to a welcome glass of wine every Sunday in order to present the entertainment programme and the activities for the week.
The A43 motorway and the railway station in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne (and the airports in Lyon, Chambéry, Grenoble and Geneva) make for easy access.
