The old village of Tignes disappeared beneath the waters of the Lac du Chevril when the valley was dammed in 1952. The resort of Tignes 2100, is now made up of many smaller resorts at varying altitudes. Tignes Les Brévières, Tignes Les Boisses, Tignes Le Lavachet, and the purpose built Tignes le Lac and Val Claret. There is plently to do in Tignes in summer including skiing/snowboarding on the Grande Motte Glacier.
The Tignes Glacier rises from 2700m to 3600m and boasts 20km of ski runs, 12 lifts, 750m of vertical, a snow park and an ice grotto not to mention having breathtaking views. From its summit of 3656m, the Grand Motte glacier dominates the surrounding area. Grande Motte Glacier is open during the summer months allowing freestylers to practice in the snowpark, or watch the professionals complete their summer training. For the beginners amongst you the soft summer snow is ideal.
Tignes is host to a whole array of activities in the summer including mountain biking sports. Tignes is a very popular destination with many British and French tourists alike due to the range of activities available.
There are many bars and restaurants in each of the Tignes villages and 4 nightclubs; 2 in Val Claret and 2 in Le Lac.
Tignes is traffic free so there is a 24 hour shuttle bus in operation.
The Grande Motte Glacier is normally open from the latter part in June until the end of August everyday from around 7am to 1pm.
Tignes is open from end of June to end of August. Exact dates to be confirmed in 2012.

Tignes Youth Club
Located lakeside, the kids’ club welcomes your children by the following age groups:
- 4-5 years
- 6-8 years
- 9-11 years
- 12-14 years
The range of activities will delight the most athletic: trampoline, pedal boat, horse riding, archery, adventure trail, rafting, via ferrata, tennis, miniature golf, football, swimming, rock climbing and hiking. After a day at the kids’ club, children and adolescents will have but one desire: to return the next day!
A schedule suited to the needs of 4-5 year-olds has been specially developed. It offers a different theme each week. Each day is structured as follows:
- morning: sport and other activities
- afternoon: creative workshops and group games, plus a snack to boost energy levels.

Marmo Jump

The bike park & mountain biking
From July 2nd to September 4th 2011, ride down Tignes Bike Park 100 kms of trails.
Toviere Aeroski is open every day from 10.30am to 12.30pm and from 1pm to 4.30pm, between July 2nd and September 4th.
The Palafour ski lift is open every day from 10am to 1pm and from 1.30pm to 5pm, between July 2nd and September 4th.
Located on the Palafour and Toviere mountain areas, the Bike Park offers downhill trails and rides suitable for both beginners and experts. Enjoy free access to all trails by the Toviere aeroski and the Palafour ski lift.

Acroland: for the adrenaline junkie!
On the shores of Lake Tignes,
- Toboggan hot jumping (€8pp). You slide on your back or stomach and end with a freestyle jump in the lake.
- Waterjump (€12pp). Skiing, snowboarding, BMX, mountain bike or rollerblades, you take your momentum on a 35 metre track before attempting a spectacular somersault or figure. The ski freestyle champion himself stays every summer until the winter season.

Glacier walking
Experience walks on Espace Killy’s Grand Motte or Pissaillas glaciers. Breathtaking views await you.
From around €40 for adults and €20 for children you can discover the Grand Motte Glacier with a guide. You will also visit the Grotte du Glace (Ice Grotto) and have lunch at Le Panoramic restaurant at a height of 3032m. For an extra €4 you can join the optional downhill walk into Val Claret, a vertical drop of 932m. This walk is available to all ages but isn’t an easy walk. These excursions are organised for 3 to 4 times a month so check with the tourist office when they are running.

This high-quality equipment has been imported after the Basel European Cup Skateboarding 2005. 800 m² in area, has 12 Miniramp components and redeveloped for the general public and suitable for inline skating, BMX and freestyle mountain biking.

Hiking enthusiasts in Tignes will delight in a 55,000-hectare recreation area in the heart of preserved wilderness. Nearly half the village is located in the Vanoise national Park, which forms – together with the Italian National park “du Grand Paradis” –the most expansive protected area in Western Europe.
