With influences from both the northern and southern faces of the Alps - Provence/Cote d’Azur borders the south – L’Oisans with its spectacular peaks has been a centre for high Alpine tourism since the 19th century.

Spreading between Grenoble and Briançon, L’Oisans is in the heart of the Parc National des Écrins – one of France’s greatest national parks. With 10km² of glaciers, with summits such as La Barre des Écrins at 4102m and La Meije at 3983m, it comes next after the Mont Blanc Massif as the favourite training ground for mountaineers. Bounded by the Romanches and Vénéon valleys, the rivers Romanche, Durance and Drac, and the many mountain lakes the Oisans region provides a very varied terrain for the activities to be found in the area.

The Oisans consists of several mighty peaks on the northwest corner of the Ecrins. If there’s one thing you should do here, it’s take the breathtaking cable car ride from La Grave up to the majestic snowy peak of La Meije which stands supreme at nearly 4000m.

Two of the most spectacular road passes in Europe are also to be found here – the Col du Galibier with unbeatable views out over the Alps and the Col du Lautaret. The Alpine valleys that sit at the foot of the slopes are a holidaymaker’s dream come true in summer time. There are crystal clear lakes to swim in and glistening mountain streams and rivers where you can fish for trout and pike. Don’t miss the chance to fish at a remote mountain lake, it might mean walking for an hour or two to get there but the exquisite setting makes it well worth the effort.

Picture Les Deux Alpes
At the heart of the Oisans region the resort of Les Deux Alpes is a vast outdoor adventure playground for mountain lovers. It offers an amazing array of more than 80 activities, from quad biking to via ferrata, paragliding to sledging. Flanked by the Oisans massif to the west and the Ecrins national park to the east, Les Deux Alpes will lead you into a fascinating world of peaks and summits, rock and ice. The national park alone boasts the finest collection of glaciers in France.
Picture Venosc
The pretty little village of Venosc is accessed from a main road turn-off and is linked to Les Deux Alpes by gondola. Its narrow cobbled streets, old chalets, fountains, 14th century church and old-style architecture gives the village and its hamlets a traditional alpine feel.
Picture Vaujany
A very pretty, charming and peaceful village where farming families have lived for generations. Vaujany takes great pride in it's efforts and success in conserving its traditional Alpine authenticity. There are traditional, almost unchanged small alpine mountain farms or crofts offering mountain cheeses, fresh butter, milk, honey, fruit conserves and a local génépi liquor made with Alpine flowers.
Picture Serre-Chevalier
On the edge of the superb Ecrins National Park, Serre-Chevalier is made of 13 hamlets and villages located between the famous 'Lautaret' pass and Briançon, Europe's highest fortified town. Despite being one of the most northern point of the Provence Cote d'Azur region the area benefits from a true Mediterranean Alpine climate with over 300 days of sunshine every year.

Picture Montgenevre
The commune is made out of two blooming villages: Montgenèvre located on the pass and the hamlet of Les Alberts, at its feet, doorstep to the Clarée valley. Montgenèvre dates back to antiquity. Even though it is 1860 m high, it benefits from an exceptionally high level of sun due to its Mediterranean climate (300 sunny days per year).
Picture Briancon
On the edge of the superb Ecrins National Park, Serre-Chevalier comprises 13 hamlets and villages located between the famous Lautaret pass and Briançon, Europe’s highest fortified town. Despite being one of the most northerly points of the Provence Cote d’Azur region, the area benefits from a true Mediterranean Alpine climate with over 300 days of sunshine every year.
