the legendary valley. World-renowned sites such as
the stunning Aiguille du Midi, Mer de Glace (Sea of
Ice) can be easily accessed from Chamonix and its
many cable cars, the scenic Montenvers train or the
picturesque Mont-Blanc tramway.

350km of walking area and many lifts operating

Chamonix: The world capital of mountaineering is only
a few miles from Les Houches. Very cosmopolitan it
boasts first rate leisure facilities and a huge range
of shops and restaurants.

L’Aiguille du Midi is reached by cable car from
Chamonix. The views from Europe’s highest cable
car station (3842m)are literally breathtaking. From
there you can walk back to the famous ‘Mer de
Glace’ with ease and catch Montenvers train
back to town.

Montets glacier also offers the starting point for
superb walking itineraries.

Mountain biking – The tourist office can
offer you outings on mountain bikes with local guide
companies.
Walking – There are numerous walks and
hikes in Les Houches, all within the capabilities of
everyone, at every level of ability on well kept
footpaths. Maps and guides of the walks are on
sale in the tourist office. The ‘Chalets
of Charousse’ is situated above the village of
Les Houches and can be reached by car or foot
enabling you to discover this small group of
authentic old farms with their panoramic views.
The ‘Botanical footpath’, in the village,
is a path and fitness track around the Lac des
Chevants. Approximately a 45min walk. The
‘Carlaveyron Nature reserve’ stretches
out over 600 hectres covering glacial terrain and
vast forest, and on its lower slopes, the
‘Gorges de la Diosaz’. The Gorges
de la Diosaz isa listed site and an excellent
objective for all to discover. They are among
the most beautiful in France and one of the most
interesting curiosities in the Chamonix valley.
The footpaths are well kept and the solid galleries
attached on the rock face, give the walkers views of
the torrent and close access to the waterfalls by
following the narrowing fissure through the mountain.
