In the heart of the French Alps, the Maurienne Valley
was the ancestral passage between France and Italy,
running from east of Chambery to the 'Arc' water
springs and glaciers just pass Bonneval.
A traditional area for winter sports, it enjoys the
best of both worlds, the snow of the northern Alps
and the sun of the southern Alps, as well as
spectacular unspoilt landscapes. In the Haute
Maurienne, the Parc National de la Vanoise is one of
the largest protected areas in Europe and offers raw

Most of the Maurienne's 24 resorts have tried to
retain their small and friendly character. The 120 km
valley offers great motorway access and unlike its
northern neighbour the Tarentaise it does not suffer
from massive road congestion at peak times.
