Portes du Soleil - Morzine

The resort

One of the best loved resorts in the Alps, Morzine scores on many points. It's a charming, traditional village and yet linked in to one of the world's largest ski areas. It's a world away from the hustle and bustle of modern life and yet it's one of the closest ski resorts to the Channel and only an hour from Geneva. ...more

It’s an unspoilt, historic resort dating back to the 16th century, with its own Gallic identity, yet there’s a wide choice of restaurants and bars for much livelier and varied apres ski than most resorts offer.

Savoyard style with its chalet style buildings, wooden facades, carved balconies and slate-covered roofs, Morzine offers more than 30 bistros and restaurants, including some of the best in the whole region. There are three discos, two cinemas, many bars and an ice-skating arena that hosts the world’s top skaters

This artificial skating rink is also open for public skating and has a panoramic bar-restaurant. In addition a fitness centre with weights room, sauna and hot tub, has been installed in the Sports Centre.  Sleigh rides are also available.  The adventurous can try snowmobiling or ice climbing on frozen waterfalls.

In April 2004, Morzine-Avoriaz’s ski-lifts received ISO 9001 certification hence a high standard and efficiency are guaranteed. Morzine was also voted 5th best ski resort in the world in the Daily Telegraph Travel Awards, 2001.

Why Morzine?

·          Part of the massive Portes du Soleil (650km of piste) ski network with one of the largest local areas

·          One of the most easily accessed resorts by car from the UK or Geneva

One of 14 French and Swiss villages that make up the vast Portes du Soleil area with its 650km (400 miles) of runs, Morzine is ideally placed right in the middle of the area, with fast access up to the highest slopes surrounding the futuristic resort of Avoriaz above. ...more

The local Morzine-Les Gets sector covers all the mountains on one side of Morzine. It links the Pleney, Morzine, Nyon, Chevannes and Mont Chéry in Les Gets and offers more than 100km (65 miles) of ski runs for all abilities. Beginners will enjoy the conveniently located wide village nursery slopes which are provided with many snow cannons to keep the snow at its best.

Good progression runs are to be found in the Nyon sector and there are lots of options on Le Pleynet including a great blue cruise from the top to the valley lift station. Good intermediates will enjoy the challenging reds down from Chamossiere and the fine steep runs on the Mont-Chery.  More challenging pistes and famous runs such as the Swiss wall and the world cup downhill black will keep the expert skier happy.  Snowboarders will love the freeride terrain and parks available with the best super pipe in Europe situated in Avoriaz.
