Paradiski - Champagny (La Plagne)

The resort

The attractive farming village of Champagny is in a pretty wooded setting where modern expansion was carried out sensitively. Tucked away on the sunny south-facing slopes of the Grande Plagne ski area, it is also the gateway to the famous and magnificent Vanoise National Park. ...more

The village of Champagny has a small but fine selection of restaurants to suit all tastes (9), just enough bars, even a disco and cinema, mini supermarket, boulangerie and local speciality shop with more services in nearby Bozel (3 miles away). Entertainment in Champagny is organised every week with a welcome drink on Sundays.

Champagny is renowned for cross country and winter walkers but for something different try the new 20m artificial ice climbing tower which is the only one of its kind in Europe.

The nursery in Champagny looks after children aged 2 to 6 and the ski kindergarten takes them from 3 years old.

Skiing

Champagny is one of the 10 ski resorts that make up the La Plagne area and the massive Paradiski slopes are accessed using only two lifts. The cable car from the centre of the village takes skiers to an altitude of 2,000m within 8 minutes. The return direct to the village is either by a red run or the cable car.
The ski area is an intermediates' paradise with 85% of runs being blues or reds.
...more

Advanced skiers will enjoy the runs on the Bellecote glacier whilst those seeking off-piste challenges should take the short hike up the Cul du Nant for the classic descent through the Vanoise National Park (guide required).

The snowsure beginners’ area is at the top of the cable car where superb views can be enjoyed.

Champagny is well placed for an outing by car to neighbouring Courchevel and the 3 Vallées (21km).

Stop Press - Vanoise Express Closure

December 21, 2007 – The Vanoise Express cable car that links the Arcs/Peisey-Vallandry and La Plagne ski areas will unfortunately not be in service this winter (07/08).

This decision follows a consultation between the operator and region's safety authorities, who today requested the suspension of the operation of this particular lift.

Anomalies in the cables of the two lines were detected and a more advanced diagnosis must be carried out, but repairs cannot be undertaken before the end of the season. Both La Plagne (225km of slopes) and Les Arcs (200km of slopes) are massive high altitude ski areas in their own rights and therefore this should have a relatively low impact on skiing potential.
