Introduction

Les 2 Alpes has one of the highest ski areas in the world, and from 2800 to 3600 metres (11 800 ft), between 14 June and 30 August 2008 the largest skiable glacier (110 hectares) in Europe is open for Summer skiing and snowboarding. Les Deux Alpes is very much Europe's capital of summer skiing with a significant area of marked pistes, an 800m vertical descent, 11 ski lifts open from 7am to 1pm, a purpose built “snowpark” with half pipes, jumps, and organised courses available it offers a total ski area bigger and better than many small winter resorts. With a variety of runs in a relaxed summer atmosphere Summer skiing is for everyone from complete beginners to more expert skiers or boarders looking to enjoy something different. You can even mix with professional snowboarders who come from all over the Europe for training. Summer skiing is done in the morning until lunchtime leaving the rest of the day for more traditional summer activities in Les Deux Alpes.

Glacier details

The Glacier for summer skiing is open from:

14^th June to 30^th August 2008.

From around 7.15am to 1.30pm every day, depending on the period.

In less than 30 minutes you can be on one of Europe's largest glaciers (3200m-3600m).

Piste: 110 skiable hectares on the glacier

Lifts: 11 ski lifts: 1 funicular, 4 chairlifts, 7 drag lift, 2 snow lines

Slopes: 11 runs (8 blue, 2 green, 1 red)

Snowpark: a large snowpark with 2 half-pipes, hips quarters, boarder-cross, grind bars and jump modules plus music and barbecue.

Summer Skiing

Les 2 Alpes launched the first snowcamps in the summer of 1996.  Since then the camps have become more and more successful and offer courses for every level and discipline including: freestyle, freeride and freecarve.

The European Ski School have put together an extensive summer programme alongside Skivolution from Courchevel and SnowPro. Benefit from high-level courses with some of Britain's top ski professionals.

Each morning for a week you can perfect or learn new skills; in the afternoon take part in dynamic and diverse activities such as skate boarding, rollerblading, bungee jumping, paragliding, trampolining, climbing, mountain biking, white water…

Whether you want to learn skiing or snowboarding or improve your technique come and join our summer clinics. The courses are based on small groups for maximum progress and most instructors are English or from English speaking countries so language won’t be a problem.

5 day course ski (Sun-Thurs), 2 hours per day £149 (4 per group max)

Adults and children from 6 years old.

5 day course snowboard (Sun-Thurs), 2 hours per day £149 (4 per group max). Adults and children from 10 years old.

Private lessons* can also be arranged all summer long (for children aged 5 years then this is a good option as they cannot do the group course. Also if you wish to ski before 29/06):

1 person £64 per 2 hour session

2 people £69 per 2 hour session

3 people £79 per 2 hour session

4 people £84 per 2 hour session

Please note that for complete beginners private lessons may be the only option if there are insufficient numbers in a group.

Lift passes – Summer 2008

Summer ski-passes are available which give you access to the summer ski area and use of the tourist lifts (walkers) plus free entrance to the pool and ice-rink. Skiing is free for children under 5 years old and adults over 75 years old.

Passport photo necessary. Prices are in £’s

2-5 day passes include unlimited access to the swimming pool and ice rink, 3 descents on the summer toboggan, use of tennis courts (1 hour morning or 45 mins afternoon) 1 tennis.

6 day and above passes include unlimited swimming pool and ice rink access (ice skate hire excl.), 6 summer toboggan runs, use of tennis courts (1 hour morning, 45 mins afternoon), archery, watersports on lake down in the valley, 1 day Alpe d’Huez lift pass
