There are a number of charming and individual museums
scattered along the valley. The Musée de
l'Opinel in St Jean de Maurienne traces one of
France's most famous knife's history. For
dare-devils, there are a number of 'via ferrata' (a
type of ladder fixed directly onto the rock) - for
example near Aussois,
try climbing a wall of rock with a vertical drop of
200m!

With such wide unspoilt spaces, lamb rearing is
widespread. Cheeses such as the Beaufort, Tomme de
Savoie, and the Bleu de Bonneval are still made
traditionally and can be found in many of the
villages. Le Farci, which is made of cabbage and
pork, should be tried after an energy burning day of
skiing!
