Insider’s Guide

To do
|
|
The walled town of Briançon is the highest
in Europe and truly unique. Bourg-d'Oisans, the middle age market
town is also worth a visit. For some of the best
views of the Alps take the cable car from Vaujany or
L'Alpe
d'Huez to Pic Blanc (3300m) or the La
Meije cable car (3200m)
from La Grave.

Other resorts worth seeing

|
La Grave-La Meije is a
freerider's
mecca - hard to resist for
advanced skiers. Serre-Chevalier, which is only
25 minutes drive from La Grave, is probably one of
the best resorts in France for snowboarders -
certainly worth trying for a day - as is the famous
'Milky Way', on the Italian side of the border and
the venue for the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Food

Worth trying during your stay are the mountain trout,
wild raspberry and bilberry tart, Les Diots (little sausages cooked
in white wine), Les Crozets de l'Oisans (small cubes of pasta)
and the ubiquitous Gratin Dauphinois, the famous potato
gratin.
