Insider’s Guide
|
To do
|
|
The close proximity of Mont Blanc and the Chamonix
valley ensures that off the slopes, there is a huge
choice of exciting things to do. Discover the most
spectacular peak in the Alps via the cable car from
Chamonix to the famous 'Aiguille du Midi' - it will
literally take your breath away! Another incredible
journey is the Mont-Blanc Tramway journey to 'Le Nid
d'Aigle' - on the edge of the Mont Blanc
glaciers. The stunning 'Mer de Glace' -
France's largest glacier - can be reached on the
original 1908 Montenvers train. The beautiful
town of Annecy - the French Venice - should not be
missed either.

Other resorts worth trying
|
|
There is an excellent choice of additional top ski
resorts within easy reach. To the north east, the
Chamonix Valley - Chamonix, St Gervais, Megeve - and
closer to the north west, the Aravis - La Clusaz, Le
Grand Bornand - are all less than half an hour's
drive. The 'Vallée Blanche' free-ride run from
the Aiguille du Midi is particularly recommended.

Food

|
It's a paradise for lovers of cheese! The
famous Reblochon is made in Flumet and being on the
edge of the Beaufortain, there is a great choice of
other cheeses to try - Gruyère de Beaufort,
tome des Bauges and Emmental - are all made in the
area. The local vin de Savoie is the perfect partner
to smoked charcuterie, 'Crozets de Savoie' (small
cubes of pasta) or 'Diots au vin blanc'.
