Insider’s Guide
|
To do
|
|
Discover the most spectacular peak in the Alps via
the cable car from Chamonix to the famous 'Aiguille
du Midi' - it will literally
take your breath away! Another incredible journey is
the Mont-Blanc Tramway journey to 'Le Nid
d'Aigle' - on the edge of the
Mont Blanc glaciers. The stunning 'Mer de Glace' - France's
largest glacier - can be reached on the original 1908
Montenvers train.
The beautiful town of Annecy - the French Venice -
should not be missed either.

An excellent choice of top ski
resorts are within easy reach. The Chamonix Valley - Chamonix, St Gervais, Megeve - and the Portes
du
Soleil - Les Gets, Morzine and Avoriaz - are within a half
hour drive. The 'Vallée Blanche'
free-ride run from the Aiguille
du Midi is particularly
recommended.

Food
|
|
Apart from the ubiquitous Fondue, discover the tomme de Savoie and raclette cheeses, local honey
and Savoie apples. "Les
Gorges des Tines" in Sixt
and "De Ballancy" at La
Frasse, near les Carroz, are specially
recommended for their cheeses. 'Le Farçon', a potato dish
with an interesting mix of bacon, raisins and prunes,
should be tried with a local Mondeuse wine.
