Introduction

We can offer Summer Skiing in the French Alps in two resorts – Les 2 Alpes  in the Oisans region and Tignes in the Tarentaise region.

Les 2 Alpes has one of the highest ski areas in the world, and from 2800 to 3600 metres (11 800 ft), between Saturday 18 June and Sunday 28 August 2011 the largest skiable glacier (200 hectares) in Europe is open for Summer skiing and snowboarding. Les Deux Alpes is very much Europe's capital of summer skiing with a significant area of marked pistes, an 800m vertical descent, 14 ski lifts open from 7.15am to 13.30pm, a purpose built “snowpark” with half pipes, jumps, and organised courses available it offers a total ski area bigger and better than many small winter resorts. With a variety of runs in a relaxed summer atmosphere Summer skiing is for everyone from complete beginners to more expert skiers or boarders looking to enjoy something different. You can even mix with professional snowboarders who come from all over the Europe for training. Summer skiing is done in the morning until lunchtime leaving the rest of the day for more traditional summer activities in Les Deux Alpes.

Tignes Glacier rises from 2700m to 3600m and boasts 20km of ski runs, 12 lifts, 750m of vertical, a snow park and an ice grotto not to mention having breathtaking views. From its summit of 3656m, the Grand Motte glacier dominates the surrounding area. Grande Motte Glacier is open during the summer months allowing freestylers to practice in the snowpark, or watch the professionals complete their summer training.  For the beginners amongst you the soft summer snow is ideal. The Grande Motte Glacier is normally open from June 18th until 4^th September 2011 everyday from around 7.15am to 1pm.

2 Alpes Glacier details

The Glacier for summer skiing is open from:

18^th June to 28^th August 2011.

From around 7.15am to 13.30pm every day, depending on the period.

In less than 30 minutes you can be on one of Europe's largest glaciers (3200m-3600m).

Piste: 200 skiable hectares on the glacier

Lifts: 14 ski lifts (3 chair lifts, 7 ski lifts, 2 gondola, 1 funicular, 1 rope tow)

Slopes: 8 runs (4 blue, 2 green, 2 red)

Snowpark: a large snowpark with 2 half-pipes, hips quarters, boarder-cross, grind bars and jump modules plus music and barbecue.

Tignes Glacier details

The Glacier for summer skiing is open from:

18th June to 04th September 2011

Everyday from around 7.15am to 1pm.

Piste: 20km of ski runs, 750m of vertical

Lifts: 12 lifts

A snow park and ice grotto.

Summer Ski School 2011 – 2 Alpes

Les 2 Alpes launched the first snowcamps in the summer of 1996.  Since then the camps have become more and more successful and offer courses for every level and discipline including: freestyle, freeride and freecarve.

The European Ski School have put together an extensive summer programme alongside Skivolution from Courchevel and SnowPro. Benefit from high-level courses with some of Britain's top ski professionals.

Each morning for a week you can perfect or learn new skills; in the afternoon take part in dynamic and diverse activities such as skate boarding, rollerblading, bungee jumping, paragliding, trampolining, climbing, mountain biking, white water…

Whether you want to learn skiing or snowboarding or improve your technique come and join our summer clinics. The courses are based on small groups for maximum progress and most instructors are English or from English speaking countries so language won’t be a problem.

ESS Private lessons* can also be arranged all summer long (for children aged 5 years then this is a good option as they cannot do the group course):

Lift passes – Summer 2011 – 2 Alpes

Summer ski-passes are available which give you access to the summer ski area and use of the tourist lifts (walkers) plus free entrance to the pool and ice-rink. Skiing is free for children under 5 years old and adults over 72 years old.

Passport photo necessary. Prices are in £ Stirling and payable to PR.

2-5 day passes include unlimited access to the swimming pool and ice rink (hire excluded), 3 descents on the summer toboggan.

6 day and above passes include unlimited swimming pool and ice rink access (ice skate hire excl.), 6 summer toboggan runs, use of tennis courts, 1 session of archery, I session of golf practise.

Lift passes – Summer 2011 – Tignes

Ski passes of 3 days or more include free unlimited Lagon pool access for the duration of the pass.

Children under 5 and seniors over 74 FREE.
